** Parents, If you would like to download this document for your student, please do so at any time. The teachers will receive a copy to keep in their classrooms. Students will receive monthly reminder sheets. ​**

Photography Contest

  1. Open to any 4th – 12th graders may submit entries.
  2. Photos must​ be taken within the last year and taken by 4-H members.
  3. Entries may be 4×6 or 5×7 prints.
  4. 4-H members may enter ONE photo in EACH category.
  5. Entries may be a single photo OR a series of no more than four (4) photos. (A series may be “before and after” or “how-to-do-it” sequences).  
  6. Photos need to be mounted (glued, taped, etc.) to a matte (construction paper, poster board etc.) that is no larger than 7.5 x 11.
  7. Entry categories include:
    • 4-H Project Work
    • -H Exhibits, Shows, Fairs, etc.
    • Animals, Insects, etc.
    • People
    • Engineering, Buildings, etc.

S​​peech Contest

Students will give 4-H Speeches in their classrooms. We will award ribbons to them and invite the Blue Ribbon Winners to a County-wide speech contest that will be held at Lexington Middle School, date to be announced. The County winners will then go to a sub-regional contest to be announced at that time.

Speech Topics

4th Grade – “My Favorite ____________”

5th Grade – Role Models/ Person you admire

6th – 8th Grade – Subject of your choice (try to relate to 4-H)

Examples: 4th Grade – Anna Claire Kelley 5th Grade – Stetson Wood 6th Grade – Anna Aston 7th Grade – Marshall Woodall

​​​Poster Contest

Posters are collected​ in the 4-H Classroom Clubs. The top 2-3 posters in each classroom will be entered into the county contest (student doesn’t need to be present).

The top three posters in the county will be selected by a committee. These three posters will represent Henderson County 4-H in the regional contest (student doesn’t need to be present). The top 10 posters in the region will be entered in the State contest. The top 10 posters in the State will be displayed at State 4-H Congress. The winners will also receive a cash prize.

Posters MUST have a theme about 4-H. More examples can be seen on the State 4-H website.

​Interactive Exhibit & Demonstration Contest

February Contest is the Demonstration (4-5th Grade) and Interactive Exhibit Contest (6-8th Grade).

This is a contest that youth teach their classmates “how to do” something. The possibilities are endless!

4 things you CAN NOT do: 

  • NO Weapons
  • NO Live Animals
  • NO Slime/Goo/Sandwiches
  • NO Explosions

2 Things you NEED for your Presentation:

  • Exhibit Board (6-8th) / Poster Board (4-5th)
    • Needs:​
      • Creative Title
      • List of Steps 
      • List of Supplies
  • Supplies for presentation​
